You will meet this idea in ordinary days. Counting money well protects you from being cheated and keeps you from accidentally cheating someone else. This is worth learning because money is the math most people use every single day. Watch for it today, and when you spot it, tell someone what you noticed and how you knew. Ask yourself where else the same idea might be hiding, then go and look.
Watch this carefully, friend. Money review. Penny one cent, nickel five cents, dime ten cents, quarter twenty five cents. Count from the largest value down, using tens for dimes, fives for nickels, and ones for pennies.
Trade fairly, because equal value on both sides is what makes a trade honest. Count a real handful of coins today, write the total, and then count it again to check yourself.
Watch out for counting a coin twice. Slide each coin to the side as you count it, so the counted pile and the uncounted pile never mix. That single habit prevents most money counting errors. If you get stuck, use your fingers or counters. Good mathematicians use tools.
