Core Content
Think about where you have seen this before. People bundle constantly: a dozen eggs, a roll of coins, a pack of paper. Bundling turns many into one countable thing. This is worth learning because this single idea is the foundation of every large number you will ever write. Watch for it today, and when you spot it, tell someone what you noticed and how you knew.
Take a deep breath and look at this. Take ten sticks and wrap a band around them. Now you have one bundle. The bundle holds ten sticks but you can pick it up and count it as one thing: one ten. This is the biggest idea in the whole strand.
Ten little ones become one bigger unit. Unwrap the bundle and you have ten ones again. Nothing changed except how you are counting it, and that changes everything.
Try unbundling too. Take a bundle apart and count the ten sticks again. The amount never changed, only how you were holding it. Being able to bundle and unbundle at will is exactly what regrouping will ask of you later. When you get it right, say thank You to God, who gave you that thinking mind.
