This is not just for paper. Dimes, decades, and bundles all move in tens. Skip counting is how grown ups count money quickly. This is worth learning because counting by tens is the fastest way to handle bundles and money.
Watch for it today, and when you spot it, tell someone what you noticed and how you knew. Ask yourself where else the same idea might be hiding, then go and look.
You are going to like this one. Skip counting means jumping over numbers on purpose. Count by tens: ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety, one hundred, one hundred ten, one hundred twenty.
Notice that only the tens digit changes while the ones stay at zero. Skip counting by tens is much faster than counting one at a time, and it is exactly how you count bundles, dimes, and packs.
Watch out for the jump from ninety to one hundred. Some people say ninety, ten. Practice ninety, one hundred, one hundred ten, one hundred twenty until that stretch feels as easy as the beginning. Little by little, this becomes something you just know.
