Here is where this shows up in real life. Egg cartons, muffin tins, and window panes all work like frames. Once you see in fives and tens, amounts stop needing to be counted. This is worth learning because seeing amounts instantly is faster and steadier than counting them.

Watch for it today, and when you spot it, tell someone what you noticed and how you knew. Here is something worth knowing today. A ten frame is a box with two rows of five squares. Fill six squares with counters and the empty squares show you the partner: four.

You do not have to compute it. You can see it. Fill the frame from the top left, going across, then down. Used the same way each time, a ten frame turns partner facts into pictures your mind can remember without effort.

Watch out for filling the frame in random order. If counters are scattered around the squares, you cannot see the amount at a glance and you are back to counting one by one. Fill left to right, top row first, every single time. Practice this a few times and it will start to feel easy.
