This idea walks around your house all day. Pairs help creatures live well. Two eyes judge distance, two ears find direction. The design is not an accident. This is worth learning because noticing math in creation makes it easier to remember and harder to forget.
Watch for it today, and when you spot it, tell someone what you noticed and how you knew. Ask yourself where else the same idea might be hiding, then go and look. This is a good thing for a young mathematician to know. Look around and doubles appear. A bird has two wings. A dog has two ears.

You have two hands with five fingers each, which is why five plus five is such a familiar ten. Counting pairs in creation makes doubles feel real instead of memorized. Take a walk and count in twos: two shoes, two socks, two eyes. God made pairs everywhere, and now you can put numbers to them. Try a counting walk.
Count pairs of shoes by the door, pairs of eyes at the table, pairs of wheels on a bicycle. Every pair you find is a doubles fact standing in the real world, and facts you have touched are facts you tend to remember. Do it carefully rather than quickly, and thank God for a mind that can learn.
