Core Content
This is not just for paper. Ovens, phones, and car dashboards nearly all use digital time. Both kinds of clock deserve to be readable. This is worth learning because both clock styles are everywhere, so both are worth reading. Watch for it today, and when you spot it, tell someone what you noticed and how you knew. Ask yourself where else the same idea might be hiding, then go and look.
Today you get to learn something useful. A digital clock shows numbers instead of hands. The number before the colon is the hour and the numbers after it are the minutes. So 4:00 reads four o’clock, because there are zero minutes past four.
Two zeros after the colon always mean exactly on the hour. Practice matching a digital clock to a clock with hands, so you can read either one wherever you happen to be.
Try covering the digital clock and drawing the same time with hands. Moving between the two kinds of clock is the real skill, since the world uses both and does not warn you which is coming. Go slowly the first time and faster the fifth time.
