Core Content

Here is where this shows up in real life. Big counts happen in real places. A shepherd counting a large flock, a baker counting rolls for a wedding. This is worth learning because hearing the pattern means you never have to memorize numbers one at a time. Watch for it today, and when you spot it, tell someone what you noticed and how you knew.

Get your eyes and your fingers ready. The pattern keeps going. Fifty one through fifty nine, then sixty. Sixty one through sixty nine, then seventy.

Listen to the number words: each group says its ten first and then the ones. After ninety nine comes one hundred, and then the pattern starts again with one hundred one. Counting to one hundred twenty proves you understand the pattern, not just that you memorized a list of names.

Try listening for the pattern. Sixty one, sixty two, sixty three all begin with sixty and then count one, two, three. Every group of ten does the same thing. Hearing that means you are learning a system rather than memorizing a hundred separate words. You will use this idea again and again, so build it strong today.
