This is not just for paper. Fair sharing keeps peace. Scripture praises brothers who live together in unity, and honest halves help that happen. This is worth learning because fair sharing is fractions beginning quietly, and it starts with doubles.

Watch for it today, and when you spot it, tell someone what you noticed and how you knew. Ask yourself where else the same idea might be hiding, then go and look. You are going to like this one. Doubles work backward too.

If ten cookies are shared fairly between two friends, each gets five, because five plus five is ten. Finding half is unbuilding a double. Try it with eight: four and four. With twelve: six and six. If a number cannot split into two equal groups, like seven, then one friend would get more, and that is not a fair share.

Fair sharing needs an even number. Here is a caution. Not every number can be halved fairly with whole objects. Seven cookies split between two friends leaves an odd cookie, and someone must break it or give it away. Noticing when a fair split is impossible is itself good mathematics. Little by little, this becomes something you just know.
