Think about where you have seen this before. Recipes, chores, and snacks get halved constantly. Half is probably the first fraction anyone learns to want. This is worth learning because half is the first fraction, and it opens the door to all the others.
Watch for it today, and when you spot it, tell someone what you noticed and how you knew. Ask yourself where else the same idea might be hiding, then go and look.
Take a deep breath and look at this. When you split a whole into two equal parts, each part is one half. Two halves make the whole again with nothing left over. Fold a paper exactly in half and check the edges match, then unfold and see the two equal parts.
A shape can be halved in different directions and still be halved, as long as the two parts are equal. Half of anything is always the same size as the other half.
Watch out for folds that look close but are not exact. Line up the edges before creasing, then check that the corners meet. Nearly half is not half, and in fractions the word means exactly. When you get it right, say thank You to God, who gave you that thinking mind.
