Think about where you have seen this before. Mental jumps of ten make everyday math fast. Adding a dime to a pile of change works the same way. This is worth learning because instant ten more thinking makes two digit addition much faster.

Watch for it today, and when you spot it, tell someone what you noticed and how you knew. Ask yourself where else the same idea might be hiding, then go and look.

Take a deep breath and look at this. Ten more than a number changes only the tens digit. Ten more than 34 is 44. Ten more than 61 is 71.

The ones digit sits still because you added whole tens, not loose ones. Try it with rods and cubes: add one rod and the cubes do not change at all. Once you see this, you can find ten more instantly for any two digit number without counting a single step.

Try this quick check. Say ten more for 25, 47, and 88. Look at each answer and confirm the ones digit did not move. That one check will catch nearly every mistake you might make with this skill. When you get it right, say thank You to God, who gave you that thinking mind.
