Core Content

Here is where this shows up in real life. Merchants once cheated with weighted scales. God named it as sin, which means He cares about arithmetic done at market stalls. This is worth learning because how you handle a number when nobody is checking shows who you are. Watch for it today, and when you spot it, tell someone what you noticed and how you knew.

Get your eyes and your fingers ready. Numbers can be used to tell the truth or to tell a lie. Someone can write down a bigger number than he really counted, and the paper will look fine. But God sees it. Scripture says a false balance is something God hates, while a just weight delights Him.

So when you count, count honestly. When you check, fix what is wrong. An honest answer with a mistake in it is better than a dishonest one.

Try this. If you find a mistake in yesterday’s work, fix it and tell someone you found it. That takes courage, and it builds a kind of honesty that people will trust you with later, when the numbers involved are much bigger than these. You will use this idea again and again, so build it strong today.
