Here is where this shows up in real life. Builders use a measurement they already know. Then they adjust it just a little. They do not measure from scratch every time. This matters because leaning on facts you know makes mental math strong. Watch for it today. Tell someone what you noticed and how you knew.

Get your eyes and your fingers ready. Near doubles are almost doubles. Look at 6 plus 7. These numbers are neighbors. So use the double you already know. Six plus six is twelve. Seven is one more than six. Add one more and get thirteen. That is a doubles plus one fact.

You did not memorize anything new today. You leaned on a fact you already had. Then you took one small step. That is smart thinking, not cheating. God gave you a mind that can grow. Using what you know well is a good way to care for that gift. Say thank you.

Watch out for one thing. Doubles plus one works only when the numbers are next door neighbors. Six and seven are neighbors. Six and nine are not, because they are three apart. Check the numbers first. Then reach for this strategy. Ask where else this idea hides, then go and look.
